The Only Thing More Powerful Than Hate Is Love

By Jessica Dahan and Adrian Marin

Some lessons should be taught early in life, yet they often need to be relearned and reaffirmed, especially during moments of division and uncertainty. One truth continues to rise above the noise: the only thing more powerful than hate is love.

In a time when discrimination, intolerance, and fear too often dominate headlines, this message resonates across generations and communities. Love is not passive. It is hope during moments of despair, compassion in the face of intolerance, and resilience when adversity feels overwhelming. Love reminds us that unity is possible, even when our languages, beliefs, religions, genders, or races differ.

At Jewish Community Services of South Florida (JCS), this belief is central to everything we do. Our work is grounded in the Jewish value of Tikkun Olam, repairing the world. We believe safety, dignity, and support are universal needs. Our doors are open to everyone, because no one should feel unseen, unheard, or unsafe simply for being who they are.

JCS takes a whole-person approach, meeting individuals where they are and honoring both their strengths and their needs. Through comprehensive, life-sustaining programs, we help individuals and families build stability and resilience at every stage of life. Our services are rooted in four core pillars:

Case Management Services

Personalized support for older adults and individuals facing complex life challenges. Our case managers assess needs, coordinate care, advocate for clients, and help navigate healthcare, housing, benefits, and community resources.

Clinical Services

Professional, compassionate mental health services for individuals, families, couples, adolescents, and children. Our clinicians provide counseling and therapeutic support to strengthen emotional well-being, relationships, and overall quality of life.

Food Security Programs

Access to nutritious food through Congregate Meal Sites, grocery and home-delivered meals for frail seniors, and essential assistance through the Kosher Food Bank. These programs ensure that vulnerable populations have reliable access to meals that support health and dignity.

211 and 988 Lifeline Support

Critical connections to immediate help through 211 community resource referrals and the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. These services provide timely guidance, crisis intervention, and support for individuals experiencing emotional distress or urgent needs.

Choose Love

Love is louder than hate, but only when it is intentional. Love is a choice. It shows up in how we listen, how we speak, and how we act. When we choose to lead with love, we not only strengthen ourselves, but we uplift our communities.

This invites an important question for each of us:

Are we allowing love to guide our choices, our actions, and our words, even when it is hard?

Every act of kindness, every intentional word, and every compassionate choice moves us closer to a world where hate has less power. Let us commit to showing up for one another in small, meaningful ways, today and every day.
