Panelists Rebbitzin Chani Lipskar, Janis Roszler, Eli Feldman and Rabbi Yochanan Zweig address the audience at The Shul of Bal Harbour
Yehi Ohr, JCS’ new initiative providing services to the Orthodox community, held a workshop on October 26th at The Shul of Bal Harbour. Fifty professionals — including therapists, psychologists, lawyers and RNs – attended this event on cultural sensitivities called “Understanding the Orthodox Jewish Community.”
The distingushed panel was comprised of Eli Feldman, LMHC, EF Counseling; Rebbitzin Chani Lipskar, The Shul of Bal Harbour; Janis Roszler, MFT, RD, CDE, LD/N, Jewish Community Services; and Rabbi Yochanan Zweig, Talmudic University. Among the topics they covered were:
- Roles of Rabbis
- Jewish law
- Jewish marriage
- Family purity
- Role of women
- Cultural sensitivity in clinical work with the Orthodox community
- Behaviors to expect when working with the observant Jew
A lively question and answer session at the end of the presentations was followed by a tour of The Shul of Bal Harbour’s Mikvah (ritual bath). Zisa Levin, Coordinator of Yehi Ohr, is happy to report that the response to the workshop was extremely positive. The evaluations and feedback suggested an interest in continuing education about Orthodox community practices and culture.
