For several years, volunteers have spent Sunday mornings not only to deliver food to homebound senior citizens throughout Miami-Dade County for Jewish Community Services of South Florida’s holiday food distributions, but they have also engaged in friendships and conversations.
On the morning of Sept. 12, hundreds of volunteers will once again deliver free kosher food baskets to more than 400 seniors for JCS’s annual Milk & Honey Food Distribution that is designed to help recipients celebrate the High Holidays.
“This [distribution] is important for our older clients as they recognize that the visits not only brings in substance for the body, but also substance for emotions,” said Fred Stock, JCS’s chief executive officer/president. “It’s a friendly visit and an opportunity for an older person to spend time with a younger person and a lot of times volunteers bring their kids so senior citizens get to interact with the kids as well.”
